SERPENT ENERGY AND YOUR SATTVIC SELF
We will meet the next New Moon, tomorrow, Wednesday January 29. This New Moon also marks the shift into a new year in some countries, like China, Korea, Vietnam...
From tomorrow onwards, we will be in The Year of the Snake. Quite exciting from a Kundalini perspective.
The Kundalini is often describes as the serpent energy. The sound of the snake (“ssshhh”) is said to directly impact and raise the kundalini.
With this in mind, tomorrow’s New Moon, gives us an amplification of the Kundalini energy, and it will remain extra present for the next year.
What does it mean to have your “Kundalini awakened”?
There are many who has attempted to answer this question and describe what it means, and what happens when the kundalini rises.
I will try and share a bit about my own personal experience and understanding of it…
There are different ways to experience the Kundalini energy awakening, and I have also experienced the Kundalini awakening energy in different ways, throughout my time practicing Kundalini Yoga.
The very first tangible example was during my teachers training. I didn’t have any “black out moments”, or dramatic experiences as such, but an energy was awakened in me that I had never experienced before.
For a good month after, I felt like I was flying.
All the resistance, the blocks, the fatigue that I usually felt was just gone. And I could more easily do all the things I wanted to get done in life. I felt free, and I felt like the barrier between thought / ideas and action was basically none existing.
I can still have times in my life like this, but I wouldn’t say it’s a constant—not in the same way as I experience it after a week of training etc. But over the years I can look back and see how I am definitely more free to do what I need to do, and less confined by my own self sabotage and resistance, than I used to be.
Then there are other times where I will feel an immediate and powerful energy surge up my spine...
This is what is more typically described as Kundalini risings, however for me it doesn’t always led to a permanent state of being more energized.
My own conclusion is that these surges of energy, which can make your spine shake a bit or give strong energetic sensations, can break blocks, balance chakras etc. But then the energy might still need to be integrated. I welcome these, but I don’t seek them out necessarily.
I will often experience this type of energy release at the end of a meditation (the “inhale, hold” parts—and yes there has been a few “black out moments” with these).
I don’t want to be too sure in my assessments here. It could be other things happening too, like maybe blood pressure is rising, maybe it’s the transition from sitting very still to then moving etc.
But when these kind of “kundalini risings” happen, what I feel is that there is a barrier between my finite self, and my infinite self that lessens or dissolves. Like an experience of being complete. A deep sense of oneness.
I will often get this kind of sensation after my morning meditation, the Bound Lotus posture (check out the upcoming course here). It feels like a kind of merging of all parts of myself, with a higher realm, or sense of totality.
The Sattvic Self
Sattva is your divine self—the none human, none animal part of you. It’s a quality within you, and as a human you are all these three parts.
When the Kundalini awakens in you, all these parts of you are being balanced.
What usually happens is that the angelic / sattvic part of you, which is not so dominating in most people—that’s just how planet Earth was make to function right now, in the Kali Yug / Dark Age that we are in. So a person most rooted in their angelic self is a rarity.
But there’s a unique balance for you, that works for you, and that serves you and your higher mission.
The Kundalini experiences helps balance that in you, and brings out more of your divine self. The part of you more in contact with the totality of life.
