BLESS YOURSELF
The Winter Solstice is just one day away and we will be meeting the Sun at its darkest point (in the Northern Hemisphere at least), and soon we can look ahead to brighter and longer days.
There’s a great trust needed when we are in darker times (metaphorically and actually). We can’t see the full fruition yet, things might even feel hopeless, and we have to surrender and trust. It’s an excellent moment to make your life a living prayer—make offerings, sow seeds for your new ideas to blossom—and to rely on blessings.
I’m sure you can recall a moment in your life that has seemed hopeless, or “dark”. What brought you out of it? Sometimes it’s the will of the Self that finally says “enough”. Other times it might have been nothing short of a “divine intervention”—a miracle, or a blessing.
If you want to cultivate a deeper relationship with receiving blessings in your life, it is a good idea to build the habit of two practices: one is prayers—learn to ask for and invite in the miracles—and the other one is learning how to Self Bless.
THE PRACTICE OF SELF BLESSING
The practice of self blessing is a good place to start. If you want to be able to receive blessings or better yet be able to extend blessings to others, you have to become comfortable receiving blessings. It begins with your Self first.
I invite you to begin a daily practice of blessing yourself—first thing in the morning is ideal. It’s simple really: move through your body, or place your hands over each part of your body, saying “I bless my self, I bless my head, I bless my eyes, I bless my mouth” (you get the point).
This is a beautiful way to begin your day, and perhaps this winter solstice is the perfect moment to begin?
